preachin through music

When I was younger, I used to listen to music that was not glorifying to the Lord. I would always want to listen to rock and rap because that is what I liked. At the time I didn't really know of any christian rappers so I listened to non-Christian rappers and non-Christian rock bands. When I listened to these bands and rappers, I didn't quite know and understand what they were saying, I just listened to them because they sounded cool.

When I became a Christian, I completely stopped listening to the bad songs and artists that I had listened to before. When I was listening to the bad and ungodly music I didn't really know what it said, so when I became a Christian, I went on to the computer and I looked up the lyrics to the songs I listened to. THEY WERE BAD!!!!! They talked about drugs, sex, violence, and any other bad topic you can think of. It was all bad!!! After that, I felt do bad for listening to that music for so long. It disgusted me.

So that is when I went on my search for good clean Christian rappers and rock bands. I knew there were some out there, I just had to look. Right after I became a Christian I moved up into high school, (TRUE NORTH) and that is where I found my all Christian music. There are a lot of people in True North who liked rap. So I asked them of some artists and they gave me a ton. I didn't know there were some many out there. So that is when I truly got into rap. I started listening to christian rap like my favorite rapper now, Lecrae, and KJ-52.

I like Lecrae the best because when I listen to him, I feel like he is preachin to me. And that is what he is doing. He is preaching God's word through music. Christian may not have the ability to preach in front of a congregation or to a crowd, so they do it through music. My favorite song of Lecrae is Souled Out in his album Real Talk.

Here are the lyrics:

Man I consider my life nuthin'
if I could just finish the race
and complete the job the
lord jesus gave me
I live to tell the world his message
Romans 1:16 "I'm not Ashamed"
I Ain't Ashamed

(Hook)
We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

(Verse1)
1 - 1 - 6 a band of misfits
who get sick at the
state of the world
so we hit strips and spit
Christ Jesus, who scooped us out of the
dirt
and cleaned us
we were slave to sinful ways but Christ
freed us
believe us
because of the bible that supercedes us
not to the intellectual thesis
they say we believe in a fools faith
cause kids can grasp it
and salvation is granted, to those who
ask it
but even if you don't know systematic
theology
or eschatology
you know Jesus is who you wanna to seek
we ought to be
sowing seeds and seeping truth
diciplin' groups of young soldiers
and reeping fruit
aww yeah
this a part of our lifestyle
might sound good on wax
but we livin' it right now
I wish you would catch me on tapes and
CD's
But never see me in the streets in 3-D
B, Please
We ain't come here to appease
we came to spit these spiritual
soliloquies
why killers squese triggers
and hammers clap
I'm a shove on my bullet truth vest
and hammer back like that

(Hook)
We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

(Verse 2)
Man I do this for the, Way, the truth
the life, Jesus Christ
until my soul take flight
the worlds the same
everyone want to cop a chain, cop a
dame , cop 22's on the range
want to cop big fortune and fame
and claiming that they the reason that
the cops get trained
stop the game
I came here to drop a name
Jesus
The same one that blocked the pain
How many thugs you know hard enough to
stop the flames
its like
standing on the tracks tyrin to
block a train
you got the game
messed up
stop and change
mind trapped all wrapped up in locks a
chains
the same God you pray to before you
sleep at night
the same God you direspect when you
creep at night
seek the light
ain't no trin' to plead for life
talkin' bout' I sorry God
He like
Leave my sight
The key to life
is none other than Jesus Christ
If you a slave to your ways
Be free tonight

(Hook)
We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

I spit these bars
not to get no chicks in cars
Not for spinners on the wheels of
expensive cars
Man I do this for the folk who like to
lift their arms
pray to god who gave us life
so he can give us all
man I do this for the blocks in tha
Hood
the rocks in tha hood
Jesus Chist, Cornestone
gettin' props in tha hood
folks think we crazed and delerious
cilqued up 40 deep
all saved, all serious Yeah
and if you curious
we got some proof man
we got some answers
we got some truth man
tellin' folks that God is
wathchin' you man
Romans 10:9 is all you got to do man

(Hook)
We Souled Out
Seeking God's face till we fold out
you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out
break me, shake me, mold me
I would rather die like Christ
that live unholy

I like this song because it uses two verses from the Bible and one of them is my favorite, Romans 1:16 " I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes; first the Jew then the Gentile.

I like this song not just because of that, but because also the lyrics to it. He says, "We Souled Out Seeking God's face till we fold out you want it, we got it
we ain't tryin' to hold out break me, shake me, mold me I would rather die like Christ that live unholy"

This means that he is taken by God and no one can change that. He is seeking to be like God till he dies. He is asking God to break, shake, and mold him to how He wants. Then the best part is when he says he would rather die like Christ, which is a very painful and excruciating way, than live unholy.

What if they think I'm weird

As we all are going back to school, some of you next week some of you this week, like me, we will be faced with the challenge of talking to our non-believing friends about Jesus Christ. Last year, when I was not a Christian, I didn't even mention God to my friends at all. I didn't talk to them about Jesus Christ because I was afraid that they would think I was weird or some Jesus freak. I still wanted to be friends with them so I didn't talk to them at all about God.

We are worried more about what they will think and say about us rather than worrying about where that person will be when he or she dies. If you don't ask God to give you the wisdom and the courage to talk to your friends you will never be able to do it. You can't do to it by yourself.

Matthew 19:26 With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

When you finally talk to your friends you don't have to give them a sermon. Just tell them mainly that Jesus Christ came down to earth 2000 years ago as a man. He preached the gospel to many people. Then He died on the cross for every one's sins. He rose from the dead proving that he was The Son of God and ascended to heaven. They will ask many questions and trying to prove the Bible wrong. If they don't leave when you are speaking to them give them a few simple verses like John 3:16. If they don't do anything you talked about there is nothing you can do. It is all up to God.

If they are interested in what you are saying to them you may go a little deeper. They need to know that God loves them but they also need to know that God is a jealous and avenging God. Tell them that being a Christian is not going to be easy. At many times it will be challenging and you may want to give up. But when your feeling that way, just remember that God will always be with you and never forsake you. And also keep your mind on the end prize. Eternal life with Jesus Christ.

Sometime later if your friend becomes a follower of Jesus Christ you will probably look back on it and say I am so glad I asked God to give me the wisdom and the courage to to talk to my friend about Jesus Christ.

Their life will be literally changed forever!!!!

but, I'm just a kid

Last week, I had the opportunity to go down to Mexico with the Junior High for a week. This place is all about missions. Every day we would go out and build a house for a family and come back. When the teacher spoke at night he spoke about missions. He spoke about how many people have never heard the name of Jesus Christ before and about the 10-40 window. The 10-40 window for those of you who do not know what it is, it is 10 degrees longitude and 40 degrees latitude on the globe.

This section of the world has never heard the name of Jesus Christ, because many missionaries know that the countries that are in this section are dangerous and uncomfortable. So that is why there are barely any missionaries in this section. So when the speaker was talking at night about how we need to go and spread the gospel, I was wondering why he was speaking to us about missions. We couldn't go to another country and preach the gospel. We are just kids. What can we do. See I was taking what he was saying wrong.

Mark 16:15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

I like the way J. Vernon McGee talked about this in his commentary. He states:

This has been a gospel of action. Now He's telling them to get into action! They are to go. And, by the way, He is saying to us today that we should be men and women of action for God. What are you doing today to get out the Word of God? That is our business. You should be having some part in getting the Word of God out.

We can still spread the word of God in our country. You can talk to your friends, neighbors, strangers, or even your family. Even though we are kids or young adults and me may not be able to go to other countries and teach people the gospel, we can do it our country.

1 Timothy 4: 12 "Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, and in purity."

my testimony

Basically I grew up in a christian home like a lot of my friends and I went to church every week. I went to small groups and I pretended every week for two hours on a sunday that I was walking with the Lord. I think I fooled a lot of people. I was living for myself my whole life and never for the Lord. I always did what I wanted to do and not do what God wanted me to do. After church was over I would go home and start living for myself again. I did that for many years. Finally during the summer of 07' I went to Revival 07'. That week changed my life forever. At the beginning of the week Pastor Mike's sermons were yanking on my heart saying repent repent but I just kept ignoring them. Until finally, midweek I started to take the sermons seriously. Then on the last night of camp I just broke. I realized that I was just a pathetic sinful human being living for myself. I was a sinner and I needed to repent. That whole week my friend had been praying and helping me. Finally after the message the last night I pulled him aside and I told him I was ready to repent of my sins and live for the Lord. So after we went to a quite place and we prayed and I finally repented of sins and asked God to be the ruler over my life and to take over me on July 27, 2007 at Revival 07'. That is my testimony and how I became a disciple of Jesus Christ. Ever since, I have been more excited to go to church, learn more about God, singing during worship and talking about God with my friends and my family.
